
The entire construction of gutting a book and building a box will be covered in this class as well as the elements of collage, pertaining to specific dimensions, engineering 3-d elements to include and building in secret messages. The ultimate resulting piece of work can be a curiosity box that holds one’s treasures, or can stand alone as a piece of artwork. The rules in creating this work can be learned and broken within the time of building, so there are many opportunities to explore. You will learn a new skill to create more books for family and friends.
It’s always a good idea to think about what this Curio Book Box might be for… will it be for inspirational quotes and pages to keep? will it hold your love letters? maybe it’s a gift for a special someone?
Participants will provide their own book, at least 1” thick and approximately 5”x8″. Vintage books always provide a fabulous result, as do personal books (a childhood novel, mother’s cookbook). Please note, books will be gutted in this workshop. All other materials are provided for this workshop, though participants are always encouraged to bring personal items to make their book box exclusively unique. They can be flat or 3-d, examples include: old family photos, pages from an old notebook, vintage rulers, fabric from your great-grandmother’s wedding dress…

Class cancellations up to 48 hours prior to the event will receive either a credit towards a future class OR a refund minus a 15% cancellation fee
Class no-shows or cancellations, for any reason, with less than 48 hours notice will not be refunded or credited.
Multi-Week Classes-You will not be eligible for a refund if you miss a class or classes during a multi-week session. Multi-week classes are nonfundable.
Weather: We determine our cancellations based on the weather in Portsmouth. If we decide to cancel a class due to weather, we will email all attendees at least 2 hours before the start of class. If you do not hear from us, the class will proceed on time. If the class is cancelled due to weather. We will offer a make-up date. If you can not attend the make-up class, we will happily return your money, or you may keep it as an ArtSpot credit.
Cancellations up to 7 days prior to the start date of a camp session will receive either a credit towards a future camp session OR a refund minus a 20% cancellation fee.
Cancellations made within 1 week of a camp session start date will receive a credit towards a future camp session.
Camp cancellations within 72 hours /no-shows will not be refunded or credited.
