FUNDRAISER ALERT! Jonny is a dear friend of ours whom we met through the ArtSpot and have become like family. Our favorite memories with Jonny as doing art (duh) and laughing uncontrollably. Please read his story. 100% of the proceeds from this class will be going to his medical care.
Last November, our beloved Jon “Jonny” Richett began experiencing serious mental health issues, including paranoia, difficulty speaking, and the inability to recognize his own family members. This has been extremely distressing for him, and absolutely devastating for us as his family. Although he is now home with Twyla, he does not recognize her as “Mom” and is concerned he has been taken away from his “real” family.
After numerous hospital visits, Jonny was diagnosed with Downs Syndrome Regression disorder (DSRD), a neuro-immune disorder, and prescribed IVIg treatment. After one successful round and signs of progress, insurance has denied further treatment.
IVIg has been shown to be effective for 60-70% of DSRD patients, and Jonny was no exception! Just days after his first IVIg in February 2024, we saw tremendous progress – Jon even hugged his mom! He began to joke with us again, became interested in some of his hobbies, and re-engage in some daily activities. He shared with us that his head feels clearer, he is feeling happier, and he is relieved that it is easier to talk.
However, insurance has denied coverage for his follow up treatments, jeopardizing his recovery, and we’re starting to see some signs of decline again.
IVIg consists of one big, initial round (which he’s had) and a minimum of 6 follow-up rounds which cost around $12,000 each, self-pay. Our goal is to raise $24,000 to continue IVIg the next few rounds and hopefully get our beloved Jonny back to his happy self!
