Join Mar for a 4 week introductory  and continuing course into procreate. For this class you will need to purchase procreate and have a tablet or device compatible with the procreate app. For continuing students- Mar will work individually with you to come up with projects to challenge your procreate skills.

This class will take place in our upstairs classroom- please let us know if there are mobility needs. This class is for teens and adults.

Curriculum:

Week 1:

– Introduction to Procreate & Digital Art

– Digital art vs. Traditional Pro’s and Con’s

– What are?

– DEMONSTRATED BY

– Fruit Drawing, or ask them to create their own simple

shape. Shading and Highlights done on separate layers.

– How to choose a canvas

– Sizing your canvas for a purpose

– Layers and how to Use Them

– There is a Layer Limit

– Creating/Deleting Layers

– Effects on Layers

– Adjusting Colors

– Moving Objects (And how to move across layers)

– Clipping Mask vs. Alpha Lock

– Brushes and How To Download Them

– Finding Brushes

– Sharing Brushes

– Creating Brushes

– Layer Groups

– How to Group layers

– How to Ungroup Layers

– Renaming Layers

– In the end, give time to draw and have them explore brushes/settings

Week 2:

– Using Procreate for Rendering

– Another Fruit Drawing

– How to import a Traditional Drawing

– How to take photos and adjust photos

– Making lines from your traditional lines

– Sketching in Digital

– Shapes vs. Lines

– Adjusting Sketches

– Grab and Move

– Liquify

– Creating Straight lines, circles, squares

– Coloring

– Tracing Sketches vs. Using original lines

– Using ‘Reference’ when there is line art

– Color fill

– Rendering

– Shading with a multiply layer

– Using Color Theory

– Experimentation

– Once again, Time at the end to do any kind of subject

Week 3:

– What Goes into making an interesting piece?

– Choosing Colors

– Basic Color Theory for Digital

– Using a Gradient Map to choose colors

– Using just one shape in a composition

– Using 3 colors to make an interesting drawing

– Finding Colors

– Finding Color Palettes online

– Using a reference

– Composition

– Be interesting and unafraid

– Using Reference and adjusting!!

– Tracing a reference vs. Referencing

– Copyright, it’s real

– Cropping your canvas

– Spend most of this class having everyone choose a subject and put them

into a famous piece! Have them use wisdom from before, giving a chance

to use everything they’ve learned. Encourage them to think outside the

box, i.e. making the tower in starry night a person and they’re sitting on a

chair or the like

Week 4:

– Decorating Your Art (This one needs something on the canvas already, so

coming in with a previous art piece or quickly making another)

– Noise

– Sharpen

– Bloom

– Glitch

– Halftone

– Chromatic Aberration

– Using Brushes

– There are imported brushes, but also

– Luminance Brushes

– Patterned Brushes

– Textures

– Abstract

– Elements

– Another moment of Experimentation

– Painting a Fantasy Environment

– Last week, so helping them create a final piece then ways to share them

with the world!!

– PSD vs PDF vs JPEG vs PNG vs TIFF

Please check your schedule before buying a class. There are indisputable fees associated with cancellations for any reason. Our tickets are always transferable.

Class Cancellation Policy

Class cancellations up to 48 hours prior to the event will receive either a credit towards a future class OR a refund minus a 15% cancellation fee

Class no-shows or cancellations, for any reason, with less than 48 hours notice will not be refunded or credited.

Multi-Week Classes-You will not be eligible for a refund if you miss a class or classes during a multi-week session. Multi-week classes are nonfundable.

Weather:  We determine our cancellations based on the weather in Portsmouth. If we decide to cancel a class due to weather, we will email all attendees at least 2 hours before the start of class. If you do not hear from us, the class will proceed on time. If the class is cancelled due to weather. We will offer a make-up date. If you can not attend the make-up class, we will happily return your money, or you may keep it as an ArtSpot credit.

Camp Cancellation Policy

Cancellations up to 7 days prior to the start date of a camp session will receive either a credit towards a future camp session OR a refund minus a 20% cancellation fee.

Cancellations made within 1 week of a camp session start date will receive a credit towards a future camp session.

Camp cancellations within 72 hours /no-shows will not be refunded or credited.

All tickets are transferable. Please note that if the minimum number of participants has not been met for any classes, they may be canceled or rescheduled. In this case, alternative class times may be offered, or registration fees will be fully refunded. All tickets are transferable.
