In this four-session portrait painting course, students will learn the foundations of oil painting and portraiture while creating a finished portrait from start to finish. Over four 2-hour classes, we will cover essential techniques including paint and materials handling, color mixing for skin tones, drawing and proportion of the face, values, and simple lighting. You will be guided step-by-step through the full portrait process from initial sketch and underpainting to building form, refining features, and adding final details.
